  Pre-Amble We have been to Toulouse quite a few times and always enjoyed the trip but this year we decided to give it a miss and use the time for a visit to see relatives, including two gorgeous grandchildren, who live a little way south of Aberdeen. As a result we have not been able to post as much in the blog this week. We will try and resume the complete service next week although we won’t be able to post details of the match in Toulouse until late Monday, at the earliest. And that is also why this is a rather shorter ‘musings’ than usual. York Is there anything worse, when things have been going badly, to have a huge improvement and then suddenly for everything to go belly-up again. Twenty minutes into last weekend’s game we were feeling so happy. After three dismal performances we were back to playing really well and were leading 16-0.   Fourth time for Fev this year with this referee and it is also the fourth time ever. And strangely, none of those games has been at our place. So far, in 2024, he has been lower than average for penalties and yellow cards and he hasn't shown a red card in 2024 (yet).

We suspect the most difficult one was Jarrod Sammut who only ever played the on game for Fev on Dual Reg but memorably in that game he kicked ten goals from ten attempts.

  

    

 

  Sheffield       Sadly, it turned out to be our third loss in a row and it felt all the more galling because we came so close to winning it only to be thwarted by a converted try gifted to Sheffield (it was a ‘Comedy of Errors’) with only four minutes to go. Nevertheless, there is plenty to be positive about. As we pointed out last week, Sheffield have been consistently above us in the table in 2024 so a visit to their place was always going to be tough. We did, however, began to feel rather more optimistic when we learned that Anthony Thackeray wasn’t going to be playing. Despite now being 38 years old, he has been the lynchpin of the Sheffield team providing tactical awareness and leading the team around the pitch. It wasn’t a good Fev performance but it was much better than we had been against either Barrow or Swinton.
