fevnut's Quiz Questions 2025/#13: The Answers

Image
The questions were about Fev players who have also played internationally for England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales. We  confined it to those players who got caps while they were registered for Rovers. So, for example, Zak Hardaker and Deryck Fox are not included because, although they played for both Fev and England, their England appearances were when they were playing for other clubs. In the lists for each of the four nations we omitted some names and asked to try and work out the missing names. To make it easier we have given you the years when they were playing for Fev and the players were listed in alphabetical order. Here are the lists again with the names we left out shown in red. How did you get on? How many did you get right? Question 1)  England Question 2)  Ireland Question 3)  Scotland Question 4)  Wales

fevnut's musings 2025/#23: A Fev super-fan, Halifax and

Image
A Fev Super Fan We first met Mick Edwards almost fifty years ago, and became friends very quickly, although that initial connection was because we were both members of Ackworth Labour Party rather than having anything to do with Featherstone Rovers. Indeed, to begin with, our sporting chats were usually about Barnsley FC and cricket. But, then we saw him at Post Office Road and it was not long before we started sitting together in the main stand. As season ticket holders we had reserved seats (and in those days we didn't have to pay extra for that). Gradually we managed to move our seats to our favourite position, facing the half way line where we thought you had the very best view of the action. It was a standing joke that despite the fact that we were very supportive of the wonderful improvements to the stadium through the fantastic work of the 'Stand Gang' a negative consequence was that the halfway line got moved and out seats ended up being slightly towards the Pos...

This week's referee: Halifax Panthers v Fev (Championship Round 15)

Image
Even though this referee began in 2019 and has taken charge of 88 matches so far, this will be only the fourth time he has been allocated to a Fev match. In the previous three we won 34-6, 52-12 and 66-0! So far in 2025, he is slightly above average for penalties and yellow cards.

Head Coach: Mark Applegarth   Mark Applegarth took over as head coach at York last June, succeeding Andrew Henderson. When he arrived, York were in 12th place in the Championship and by the time the season ended they had risen to 4th place. He had been the head coach at Wakefield Trinity in 2023. As a player he was a forward and was used at prop, second row and loose forward. He started out with Wakefield in 2004. In 2008 he moved to York and in 2010 he went to play for Temora Dragons in New South Wales and then Central Queensland Comets. Returning to England in 2012 he joined Batley and then re-joined York in 2014 and was there until he retired from playing at the end of 2016.   Captain: Liam Harris   Liam Harris (halfback) made his first-grade début playing for York (on loan from Hull KR in 2017). In 2018 he signed for Doncaster but was transferred to Hull FC in May although he played further games for Doncaster on dual registration. He pl...
