A fevnut special: The Fev Families

The Fev Families

Back in the day, when we began the long project to digitise the records of every Fev match and consequently every Fev player, we were intrigued by the large number of repeated surnames. So, when the original task had been brought up to date, we (Mark las Palmas and fevnut) started trying to untangle the relationships between players.

For a start there were ten players with the surname Barraclough. What became clear was that there were several unrelated families involved but there were also a whole web of family relationships between some of the Barracloughs. Then there were the Bells, a father and four sons who all played for Fev.

We often talk of Fev as a ‘Family Club’ but that refers more to the manner in which Fev fans take our players to heart and the close bond that develops between the players and the fans.

A few years ago we published what we had discovered about the relationships between players in a ‘fevnut special’ which we called ‘The Fev Families’. Since then, a lot more relationships have come to light so we thought we would publish the latest information we now have. Only a few days ago we were listening to the commentary of a Fev match when it was revealed that Connor Barley, playing for us on dual reg, was the nephew of Paul Cooke who played for Fev in 2015.

The dates shown in the tables above are the first and last year when they played for Featherstone Rovers.

As with the recording of teams and scorers in Fev matches, this work will never be complete because there are undoubtedly more to discover.

If you know of any relationships between Fev players not included in the listings above, please, please let us know. You can do so by leaving a comment at the bottom of this page or by emailing us at fevblog130@gmail.com
