T'Other Side: Huddersfield Giants

The data on this page refers to the Huddersfield Giants first team squad. It is highly likely that their team rot the pre-season game will include quite a lot of players from their reserve team squad and possibly some academy players, too.

Head Coach: Luke Robinson

Having been an assistant coach at Huddersfield, Luke Robinson was the caretaker head coach from September 2020 until the end of that season and fulfilled the same role from July to September 2024 and then he was promoted to the permanent head coach.

As a player he was a scrumhalf, although in his final playing year he switched to hooker. Born in Halifax but his career started with Wigan in 2002. He was there for four seasons and during 2004 he had a loan spell with Castleford. In 2005 he moved to Salford and then joined Huddersfield in 2007 where he remained until he retired as a player at the end of 2018. At international level he played six games for England.

Captain: Leroy Cudjoe

Leroy Cudjoe took over the Huddersfield captaincy in July last season. He is a rarity nowadays in that he has been a one club player with Huddersfield. He made is his début in 2008 and 2025 is his 18th season there. For most of his career he has played at centre but in the last two years he has moved into the pack in  the second row or at loose forward. He needs just six more games to reach his 400th appearance for Huddersfield for whom he has scored 141 tries, kicked 63 goals (but none since 2014) and 1 drop goal for a total of 691 points. Between 2010 and 2013 he played 10 times for England.

Dual Registration

In 2025 Huddersfield have entered into a dual registration agreement with Hunslet.

The Fev connection

We know of 76 players who have played for both Fev and Huddersfield and there will almost certainly be others who we haven’t discovered so far.

Amongst those are:

Jamie Cording began at Castleford but never played in their first team although he did go out on loan to Gateshead Thunder in in 2009. In 2011 he signed for Huddersfield and went on loan to Sheffield Eagles early in the season before making his Huddersfield début later in the year. During his two seasons there he made 29 appearances and scored 7 tries.

In 2014 he signed for Fev and during his three seasons at Fev he made 64 appearances and scored 21 tries.

He usually played in the second row, but he also played several games for Fev in the centres.

A serious knee injury in 2016 caused him to retire at the age of 26. He made a great contribution to the work of the Fev Foundation and later became a school teacher.

Jamie Field (second row or loose forward), not to be confused with the current Dewsbury Rams player of the same name, began with Leeds Rhinos in the 1995-96 season. In 1998 he joined Huddersfield for one season, playing 20 games for them.

From 1999 to 2006 he was at Wakefield and then joined Fev in 2007. In four seasons at Rovers he made 86 appearances and scored 17 tries. He was an important part of the team that won the Championship League Leader’s Trophy in 2010.

In 1996 he played 5 games for the Great Britain Academy team.

Steve Molloy, prop forward, began his professional career with Warrington in 1988 and moved on to Leeds in 1990.

He joined Fev for 1993 season and played for five seasons as a very good front rower and forged an excellent partnership with Leo Casey. He played 128 times for Rovers and scored 23 tries. Most unusually for a prop forward, only one of those 128 games was off the bench. He captained Featherstone in 1996 and 1997.

In 1998 he joined Sheffield Eagles and then Oldham in 2000.

He signed for Huddersfield in 2000 and during two seasons there he made 50 appearances. In 2000 during his time at Huddersfield he played 6 games on loan for Oldham.

In 2002 he joined Batley but transferred to Oldham in mid-season as player-coach. His last club was Blackpool Panthers in 2005.

At representative level Steve Molloy played for Gret Britain U21, England and Great Britain some of his England and Great Britain appearances came while he was at Fev.
