fevnut's Quiz Questions 2025/#07

Image
Question 1 There has been a lot of chopping and changing in the Fev line-up in 2025 (injuries, dual-reg, loans) but nevertheless 6 players have appeared in every match to date.  Can you name them? Question 2  Something rather unusual has occurred in both the last two occasions when Wakefield Trinity have been in a match that has gone to Golden Point Extra Time. What is the unusual occurrence? N.B. Please do not write the answers in by using 'reply' on facebook or 'quote' on Fev Fans page of TotalRL.com. We have been told by some readers that doing so spoils enjoyment of working them out for themselves. We will provide you all with the answers next week! If you wish to submit an answer before we reveal them officially you can do so via Facebook 'private message' and we will respond to tell you whether you have got it correct.

fevnut's Quiz Questions 2025/#06: The Answers

Image
The question concerned the clubs who are playing in 2025 under the same name as the one they played under in their first ever season in the Northern Rugby League / Rugby Football League. There are 14 of them. How many can you name?    Of those 14, Catalans Dragons, Featherstone Rovers, Goole Vikings(obviously!), Hull Kingston Rovers, Rochdale Hornets, Sheffield Eagles, St. Helens, Toulouse Olympique and Workington Town have never changed their names. Doncaster played as Doncaster Dragons (1995-2005) and Doncaster Lakers (2006 and early 2007) but reverted back to Doncaster mid 2007. Hunslet played as New Hunslet from 1973/74 until 1978/79, reverted to Hunslet in 1979/80 and then became Hunslet Hawks in 1995/96. They returned to being just Hunslet again in 2017. Oldham became Oldham Bears  in 1995/96. After liquidation following relegation from Super League in 1997 they re-formed as Oldham in 1998. Wakefield Trinity became Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on promotion to Super Le...

Fev v Toulouse Olympique (Championship Round 8): 21 Man Squads

Image
Fev and Toulouse have both published their squads for Saturday.  We find it quite difficult to see the potential shape of the teams in the form in which the clubs publish the squads so we just have to use guesswork, along with the squads in their last match, to set them out in the traditional manner running from fullback to loose forward and then subs.  N.B. When comparing the leading scorers you have to bear in mind that whilst Fev have played 12 matches including 2 against amateur teams in the Challenge Cup, Toulouse have only played 6 games and all those were against Championship teams.

fevnut's musings 2025/#16: York, Player Loans and Players becoming Referees

Image
Interestingly, despite losing, we thought that the match at Oldham was a ‘Wow’ match. Such an improvement in our performance. Nevertheless, we were rather apprehensive about the game against York because it was obvious that Ben Reynolds was highly unlikely to be fit enough to play so we could be back to the halfback problems that have beset us for many matches this year. When we got to the ground and saw the teamsheet Ben’s absence was confirmed although we were pleasantly surprised that Paul Cooke hadn’t reverted to playing either Caleb Aekins or Danny Addy there in the halves. However, playing Connor Jones, a player we love, at halfback did seem just as bad. We quickly noted that Calum Turner was on the bench and felt that it would have been better to have him start playing in the halves alongside Ryan Hampshire. Calum is equally at home at fullback or in the halves, where he has the experience of having played more than 40 games. Needless to say, we felt very down at hal...

This week's referee: Fev v Toulouse Olympique (Championship Round 8)

Image
This referee has only taken charge of Fev matches three times before, including that loss at London Broncos earlier this season. Usually we only make reference to the referee and don't bother with touch judges, reserve referee and match commissioner but this time we do make note of the reserve referee for a reason that will be obvious when you get to the bottom of the page! And the reserve referee is: Let's all give him a big welcome 'home'!!

Sorry folks, We know a lot of you enjoy thinking about our 'fevnut's quiz questions' but we have been under a lot of time pressure recently, so we haven't done a new one for a few weeks but we've done one this week! This week's question concerns the clubs who are playing in 2025 under the same name as the one they played under in their first ever season in the Northern Rugby League / Rugby Football League. There are 14 of them. How many can you name?  Two clues to help you - they are in alphabetical order and we have given you their first year in the professional competition.  n.b. Some of the fourteen did change their name but have reverted back to the one they used originally. N.B. Please do not write the answers in by using 'reply' on facebook or 'quote' on Fev Fans page of TotalRL.com. T'Other Side: Toulouse Olympique

Image
Head Coach: Sylvain Houles   Sylvain Houles began his tenure as head coach of Toulouse Olympique for the 2013 season so he is now in his 13th season in the post. Most of his playing career was as a centre or winger although towards the end he moved to half back or loose forward. He started with XIII Catalans (the former name of Catalans Dragons) and then in 2000 entered Super League with the Huddersfield and Sheffield Giants and later London Broncos. Houles also played for Dewsbury Rams and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats before returning to France with Toulouse. He played 14 times for France.   Captain: Anthony Marion   Anthony Marion took over the captaincy of Toulouse this year following on from Harrison Hansen who retired at the end of 2024. Marion is a versatile player who has often played at hooker, halfback and loose forward. His entire professional career has been at Toulouse, having made his début in 2016. He is also a French international.    ...
