The question concerned the clubs who are playing in 2025 under the same name as the one they played under in their first ever season in the Northern Rugby League / Rugby Football League. There are 14 of them. How many can you name?
Of those 14, Catalans Dragons, Featherstone Rovers, Goole Vikings(obviously!), Hull Kingston Rovers, Rochdale Hornets, Sheffield Eagles, St. Helens, Toulouse Olympique and Workington Town have never changed their names.
Doncaster played as Doncaster Dragons (1995-2005) and Doncaster Lakers (2006 and early 2007) but reverted back to Doncaster mid 2007.
Hunslet played as New Hunslet from 1973/74 until 1978/79, reverted to Hunslet in 1979/80 and then became Hunslet Hawks in 1995/96. They returned to being just Hunslet again in 2017.
Oldham became Oldham Bears in 1995/96. After liquidation following relegation from Super League in 1997 they re-formed as Oldham in 1998.
Wakefield Trinity became Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on promotion to Super League in 1999 but changed back to Wakefield Trinity in 2017.
Whitehaven became Whitehaven Warriors in 1997 but reverted to Whitehaven in 2002.
N.B. In a fortnight's time Swinton Lions play at home against the winners of the League One Play-Off Final (Keighley Cougars v Hunslet) with the winner playing in the Championship in 2025 and the loser playing in League One.
